Head of School Welcome

Welcome to Kingsley!

What a joy it is to welcome you to our Kingsley community! Whether you're exploring our school for the first time or returning as a treasured member of our family, I'm thrilled you're here.

We are a neighborhood school in the heart of Boston's Back Bay, where learning extends far beyond our historic buildings on Fairfield and Exeter streets. From Clarendon Playground to the Charles River Esplanade, from the Boston Public Library to the vibrant streets of our community—our campus truly is the city itself.

At Kingsley, we believe in an education that grows with you. From our youngest Toddler students taking their first confident steps into exploration, to our Sixth Grade leaders tackling real-world challenges through Montessori Model United Nations, every child's journey is uniquely their own. Our teachers are experts in how children learn and grow, guiding each step with thought and intention. As students progress through our intentionally designed ten-year program, so does our approach—shifting to meet their changing needs and offering the perfect balance of encouragement and challenge at every step.

What makes me most proud? Witnessing the daily magic that happens when we nurture students' natural curiosity. In spaces curated to inspire discovery, in those light-bulb moments where new ideas are born, and in every step our students take toward becoming capable, confident citizens of the world—their growth is just beginning.

Our Montessori foundation creates something extraordinary: students who are remarkably poised, self-aware, and ready to make a meaningful impact when they graduate. They carry with them not just academic excellence, but the self-advocacy skills, collaboration abilities, and compassionate leadership that will serve them throughout their lives.

One of my greatest joys as Head of School is our "Welcome to Kingsley!" conversations with each new family. These moments allow me to hear your aspirations for your child and share the intentionality behind our program. The parent-school partnership at Kingsley isn't just important—it's transformational. Together, we create the foundation that ensures every child thrives during their time with us.

From goal-setting conversations in the fall to progress conferences throughout the year, these exchanges of observations, insights, and hopes serve as the bedrock of relationships that often extend far beyond graduation. I've watched former teachers continue to mentor families years later, a testament to the lasting bonds we build here.

To our newest visitors and future families: I invite you to explore not just our website and campuses, but the heart of who we are. Come see our students leading Community Meetings with confidence, watch Kindergarteners cross the finish line at our Marathon with the roar of the entire community cheering them on, and experience the genuine warmth that greets every visitor to our halls. I look forward to meeting you as you go through the admissions process and can't wait to introduce you to our vibrant community.

To our current families: Thank you for the partnership that makes everything we do possible. You are an ongoing source of inspiration, and I'm grateful every day for the trust you place in us as we support your child's journey.

Whether you're just beginning to discover Kingsley or celebrating years with us, know that you're part of something special—a community where every child is known, valued, and empowered to grow into their very best self.

With warmth and excitement for the journey ahead,

Steve Farley

Head of School

P.S. - Keep an eye out for me reading stories in classrooms, cheering at our Kindergarten Marathon, or sharing my enthusiasm for everything from Red Sox baseball to frozen Thin Mints. At Kingsley, we believe learning happens everywhere, and joy is always part of the equation!

Fun Facts About Steve

1. I learned how to drive in a VW Thing and have driven a dump truck and a zamboni.

2. I love to travel. I have visited all ten Canadian provinces (Territories are up next); traveled in the former Soviet Union twice where I ice fished on Lake Pskov and visited Registan Square in Samarkand; and I have twice road tripped across the United States (once when I was six with my family and once when I was 49 with my daughter).

3. I am an AVID reader. I loved books by author Virginia Lee Burton and Ezra Jack Keats as a child and fantasy/science fiction and historical fiction a little later. Today, I am a huge fan of graphic novels (and once had a collection of over 3,000 comic books–which I sold to purchase an engagement ring!) and poetry (Mary Oliver and Billy Collins are favorites).

4. I love to cook and try new recipes for special occasions. My more successful efforts include osso buco, barbacoa, maki, and grilled pizzas.

5. I have been married for almost 30 years to science educator and educational innovator Sarah. We have two children, Sam and Elise who are both currently attending college. None of them laugh at my dad jokes as much as Kingsley students!

6. I am a New England Sports fan through and through, with the Red Sox as my first favorite team followed by the UCONN women’s basketball team and the now defunct Hartford Whalers.

7. And, I am a lifelong movie buff. I have been a Star Wars fan from the very beginning—and I saw the filming of Jaws!
