An Independent Boston Day School for Students in Toddler–Sixth Grade

Outdoor Education

FIRST–SIXTH GRADE

Kingsley is committed to providing our students with learning experiences that go far beyond the classroom. Elementary field trips provide students the chance to interact with peers from other classrooms for social bonding and community building.

“A Mountain Classroom” (AMC)
Upper Elementary students and faculty are immersed in the natural world of the White Mountains of New Hampshire through the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC). This environmental science program offers our students a unique opportunity to live in and study the natural world. Components include Forest and Water Ecology, Maps and Geography, Community Living, Cooperative Learning, and Low-Impact Hiking. Additionally, educational components about nature, science instruction, community building, and leadership are an integral part of the start of the school year at the Upper Elementary level. Several AMC field instructors join Kingsley faculty for the entire program. Parents do not attend this three-day program. All students are expected to participate as it is part of the curriculum. The School is not able to make arrangements for students or families who choose not to participate in these school programs.

Lower Elementary Community Building Days
To help celebrate the start and end of the school year, all Lower Elementary students participate in community building days. Our first trip is to the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan. Together, students and teachers hike trails and learn about the resources and living creatures of the area. The end of the year program takes place at Project Adventure in Beverly. There, students use the bonds developed throughout the year to navigate cooperative challenge courses and activities. This “challenge by choice” adventure is a capstone event in Lower Elementary.
