Welcoming Steve Farley: Head of School

Sep 7, 2018 11:39:54 AM / by Doug DeMaio

Kingsley Montessori School is excited to welcome Steve Farley into our community as our new Head of School. We're very happy to have Steve join us, and are looking forward to working together to provide the best educational environment possible.

New Head of School, Steve Farley joins us from the Fenn School where he most recently served in Stephen Farleythe role of Assistant Headmaster for the Academic Program. Mr. Farley is a self-described, "teacher to the core," and has kept up with classroom teaching and academic advising roles throughout his impressive career.

Our new head of school is a thoughtful academic leader of the highest integrity. He brings over 25 years of experience in working with students and faculty in a range of distinct school settings, including a private boarding school for students with learning differences, a highly-effective public school, and two established independent day schools.

Steve’s appointment represents the culmination of a comprehensive national search that began in October of 2017. After identifying approximately 180 potential candidates from across the country, the Search Committee conducted extensive interviews with the top candidates. The Search Committee was most impressed with Steve’s ability to confidently express his vast experience and thoughtful ideas while maintaining a warm, approachable demeanor.

Steve has repeatedly found success in collaborating with others and building community. He encompasses all of the strengths needed in a Head of School, including hiring, admissions/enrollment, diversity, strategic planning, budgeting, professional development, and curriculum. Steve brings experience across a number of different grade levels and has served as an administrator in both upper and lower schools. He has a clear dedication to life-long learning, and a desire to stay up-to-date with all of the best current educational practices.

While at Fenn, Steve ensured the quality of their academic program; oversaw curriculum design; recruited, hired, evaluated, and supported faculty and academic department chairs; worked to develop a robust professional development platform through which faculty are evaluated, and implemented a new faculty professional development program.

According to Fenn Head of School, Jerry Ward, “Steve is a true educator, he really cares about the institution and educating students. His main focus is on the faculty and students, he continues to teach an English class and serve as a student advisor which is a-typical for administrators at Fenn.”

We are excited to work with Steve, and look forward to learning from and with him. He has a proven track record of forward-thinking, progressive initiatives, and is well-known in his past roles as someone who can and will support those around him.

Steve will succeed Renee DuChainey-Farkes, who led Kingsley through tremendous growth for over 20 years. We thank her for her vision and dedication. She helped steward the school into the wonderful institution it is today and we are grateful for her service.

We hope you'll join us in welcoming Steve Farley as Kingsley Montessori School's Head of School! Welcome aboard, Steve!
