Book Fair Details
Welcome to November and welcome to the Book Fair! Kingsley is partnering with Follett Library Services to hold its first-ever virtual book sale, from November 2-13.
Here is the Book Fair link.
Click in, shop until your heart’s content (use the Search feature to find titles/topics you have in mind and cannot readily see on the virtual shelves) and purchase much the same way we purchase everything online. I will keep track of the orders as they arrive and get them delivered to students through their teachers. All purchases provide a monetary kickback to our school library, so when the pandemic lifts and we can reopen things, there will be “money in the bank” to spend on new titles--yahoo! Any support you provide is much-appreciated - thank you!
Virtual Library Resources
I have just completed a pop-up class offered through EDCO this past month, called Adapt, Improve, Invent: How to Be a Long Distance Librarian. The good news is that despite not having a physical library at school right now, I have plenty of pertinent and interesting library resources (resource is the key word here--we are all having to get resourceful!) to share with students that make it possible for them to enjoy wonderful literature and a wide variety of student-friendly information, virtually. The pandemic has caused a bloom in electronic sources and sharing, and I am going with it! And that brings me to this month’s highlight (besides the book fair!): Boston Public Library. It is that good and I want to make sure we use it!
Boston Public Library: Our Community Library
BPL is our school library this year. I am working with students to make sure they all have a library card to use online (BPL is free to all MA residents), and showing them how to access the 1000s of e- and audiobooks available, as well as the many online resources that are available. Subscription databases (think BookFlix, Encyclopedia Britannica online, etc.) that would cost our school thousands of dollars are free to all BPL card holders! It is amazing. Along with teaching the students how to find and use all of these materials, I try to impress upon them how lucky we are to have public libraries in our communities always upholding our freedom to read.

Be well,
