Librarian's Corner | December: Book Fair Order Pick-Up

Dec 10, 2020 12:16:38 PM / by Kristen Eckhardt

Dear Kingsley Families,

The Book Fair orders are in! The Kingsley library earned over $700 to put toward new books when the physical library can re-open - thank you so much for your support!

Week B and Fairfield
orders will go home this week.

Week A and Exeter EC orders will go home next week, before the Winter Break.

All Online cohort and special request pick-ups will be available in the Exeter lobby by Thursday afternoon (December 10, 2020).

Enjoy!

Did you know that your BPL card gives you access to 7 other library networks in the state? Once you are in the virtual stacks on the BPL website, scroll to the bottom of the page and on the lower left you will see the list. They are hyperlinks directly into the stacks. When you go to borrow a book, you will be prompted to select your library (BPL) and enter your eCard number and PIN. Then, you are all set to borrow to your heart’s content.

My ability to share quality read-alouds with students feels almost limitless now, despite not having our physical library intact...it’s wonderful. I hope you think so, too.

Please contact me at keckhardt@kingsley.org if you have a question or query. I am so happy to help!

Be well and have a lovely holiday season,
Kristen Eckhardt, School Librarian

Check out Children’s Programming at BPL here. It’s updated all the time!

If you don’t have a BPL card to use in your household, please get one by signing up here: BPL eCard registration

Once you are in, you have access to all the picture books across the 8 libraries offered on the BPL site AND you have access to fixed virtual resources, like BookFlix...check it out!

As you may have noticed I have been making an effort with your children to make sure they each have a Boston Public Library card to use.

Children under 13 may not apply for a card on their own; it requires an adult to complete the process. BPL can basically function as our school library this year, but one must have a card to not only borrow e- and audiobooks, but gain access to other virtual resources, like BookFlix, online encyclopedias, etc.

I have plans to teach the children all about these resources after the Winter Break, so I ask that you please make sure your child has either his/her own card, or access to one in your household.

For those of you who are set, thank you so much. For those of you who may need to get a card, here is a link - it only takes a few minutes of your time: Get a BPL e-Card.

Thank you so much, everyone!

These reference materials will enhance the students’ abilities to do research and other “deep-dive” school assignments.
