THE KINGSLEY TIMES

FROM THE FIFTH FLOOR | November 9, 2021

Nov 9, 2021 3:26:50 PM / by Dr. BJ Cataldo

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself given that I have only met a small number of parents since my arrival in July. My name is Dr. B.J. Cataldo and I am the new Director of Student Support Services for Kingsley.

My office is on the fifth floor of the Exeter building, but I spend my days in both buildings visiting classrooms so I can be a part of the educational landscape—supporting both teachers and students.

Let me begin by saying how much I am enjoying my time here at KMS. The impressions I had the first time I walked through the classrooms filled with curious and excited students are the ones that still resonate with me two months later. There is an energy in each classroom that draws me in and leaves me smiling. The dedicated staff members that comprise the faculty have been nothing less than amazing. I consider myself fortunate that I am counted among them, and I look forward to many future years of continuing to get to know both students and faculty.

I have spent my entire career in education: first in the independent school sector, next in the public schools, and now back to the independent sphere. The last 20 years have been at the administrative level, where I have been fortunate to touch the lives of so many students. My background in reading and literacy has served me well as a classroom teacher, central office administrator, and consultant to both public and independent schools. I have conducted reading training in both the public and private sector in Massachusetts, as well as across the country. Here at Kingsley, I hope to contribute to the skill set of all teachers while maintaining the Montessori philosophy in our approach to learning.

I will regularly share my thoughts about my observations from the fifth floor. These might include topics about student resiliency, sleep habits, homework completion, and social emotional well-being. While I have developed a list of topics to share with families, if there is a particular subject matter you are interested in, please send it along so I may include it among my communications. I look forward to getting to know all Kingsley families.

Until next time…

B.J. Cataldo, Ed.D.
