Upcoming Literary Events in Boston
One of the best things about Boston is that there’s always something going on. This weekend (October 19 & 20), we're especially lucky! The Boston Book Festival and the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo are both happening this weekend—and what's even better; both events are free!
The Boston Book Festival
The Boston Book Festival (BBF), returning for its eleventh year, is a two-day event taking place in Back Bay and Roxbury. The entire event is free, and there are countless workshops, speakers, and readings to attend throughout the weekend. Check out the schedule of events here.
Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo
The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE) is another great, free, literary event in the Boston area. MICE has been hosting great panels, exhibits, and workshops since their first Expo in 2010. This year, the event will take place primarily at University Hall on the campus of Leslie University, Cambridge.
Meet an Author
This weekend is a great opportunity to meet an author in real life! Students have been reading books and comics by their favorite BBF and MICE presenters during library time, in preparation for these events. Children’s book authors and illustrators will be presenting at both events, including Gale Galligan—who adapted and illustrated the graphic novel editions of The Baby Sitters Club #5: Dawn and the Impossible Three, #6: Kirsty’s Big Day, and #7: Boy Crazy Stacey. The Baby Sitters Club series is a perennial hit! We're looking forward to the opportunity to meet some real life authors and illustrators in person, and learn more about their craft.
(Updated: This post originally highlighted author-illustrator Ben Hatke. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ben Hatke will not be able to attend.)
