    JOB SUMMARY:
    At Kingsley Montessori School, our mission is to help facilitate each child’s social and academic development through a collaborative effort between the home and school. The ultimate objective is to help students strengthen their unique capabilities and empower them to be competent learners socially, emotionally, and academically.

    The Upper Elementary Reading Specialist provides literacy instruction, intervention, and assessment in grades 4-6 through a combination of intervention and classroom collaboration. We seek reflective, intentional educators who are looking to contribute to a progressive Montessori curriculum, pedagogy, and principles.

    The Upper Elementary Reading Specialist must possess a profound understanding of differentiated instruction and research-based best practices related to the unique learning profiles of all children. He/she will guide the creation of individual education plans for students, particularly those with strengths and challenges related to literacy, executive function, processing speed, and working memory issues.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • MA degree in Education with some form of concentration in Special Education, Literacy, and/or Reading
    • Minimum of 3 years teaching/intervention experience
    • Certification in multisensory instructional methods such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham preferred
    • Experience using a variety of assessments including Fountas and Pinnell Reading benchmark system and DIBELS
    • Experience with Lucy Calkins’ Teachers College Reading and Writing Project Units of Study
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with Upper Elementary classrooms to plan and implement differentiation techniques (three mixed 4-6 grade classrooms) 
    • Identify learning needs of students through observation and assessments to determine intervention needs in and out of the classroom
    • Write learning plans for students receiving intervention with specific goals for intervention
    • Provide individual and small group intervention
    • Contribute to planning and implementation of Language Arts curriculum, including Literature Circles, Writing, and Spelling
    • Meet and communicate with families effectively and regularly about student progress, including three parent-teacher conferences
    • Write two reports summarizing intervention provided to students and their progress
    • Serve as a resource for families, providing ideas for outside tutors and summer programs
    • Work collaboratively with the specialists who make up the Academic Student Support Team
    • Attend weekly team meetings with classroom teachers to progress monitor students and intervention strategies
    • Work collaboratively with Director of Upper Elementary, Social Emotional Student Support coordinator, and school nurse

    DESCRIPTION:
    The position of Teaching Intern is a unique opportunity for college students and adults interested in education or a career change to teaching. We are searching for responsible, diligent and conscientious individuals with good communication skills, a commitment to professional growth, and interest in teaching and education fields. Kingsley is seeking a Teaching Intern to join our Elementary (grades 1-6) program. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of Boston’s premier independent schools. Teaching Interns work directly with students under the supervision of professional teachers. Teaching Interns will be responsible for daily duties including monitoring students during lunch periods, between classes, recess, on field trips, and during dismissal. As a Teaching Intern, you will work alongside the ­professional teachers to facilitate aspects of the students’ classroom experience by transitioning students to and from Co-Curricular classes, helping maintain classroom schedules, and helping to prepare the classroom environment for lessons by getting materials ready. There is potential opportunity for Teaching Interns to lead extracurricular classes as part of their internship program. Teaching Interns report to the Directors of Education at Kingsley.
