The Boston Public Library is a gem located just a few blocks away
from both Kingsley buildings. Established in 1848, the BPL was the
first publicly supported municipal library in America, the first
public library to lend a book, the first to have a branch library
and the first to have a children’s room. Today, the BPL boasts
27 neighborhood branches, free internet access, two unique restaurants,
an award-winning website and an online store featuring reproductions
of the BPL’s priceless photographs and artwork. Its National
Historic Landmark McKim Building in Copley Square is a common destination
for Kingsley students.
The Young Adult Room becomes a starting venue for important research
for the sixth graders as they delve into their sixth grade projects.
Their independent research projects, covering a topic of their choice,
become the capstone of their Kingsley experience. Younger children
relish their BPL time as well during bi-weekly visits to learn basic
library skills and to discover the treasures that the BPL holds
for all.
